December, 2001 -- In addition to reporting on a dozen Olympic Games, the Monkey was fortunate enough to be a part of the 2002 Olympic Torch Relay, carrying the flame on a rainy day in Frankfort, Ky.

March, 2013 -- A visit to the Kansas City Royals' spring training camp at Surprise, Ariz., provided a photo op with all-star catcher Salvadore Perez.

April, 2018 -- A trip to Oro Valley, Ariz., led Monkey and wife Margie, right, to a meeting with Arizona senatorial candidate Martha McSalley.

Circa 2012 -- What an honor it was to interview Hall of Fame basketball legend Oscar Robertson when he addressed the Lexington Bluegrass Area Minority Business Expo at the Lexington Convention Center.

June, 1986 -- Kentucky's Lisa Breiding stepped off the track in Indianapolis after winning the NCAA Championships 3,000-meter run, then promptly fielded questions from The Monkey.

February, 2010 -- The Monkey got to know Zdeno Chara in 1997-98, when he played for the old Kentucky Thoroughblades. We had time for a "reunion selfie" at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, where he captained Team Slovakia.
